How to configure AdBlock Plus for Android


Do you frequently browse using your smartphone? Do you see annoying ads while browsing on your smartphone? Are you get sick and tired of seeing those annoying ads? Here’s the solution of your problem “AdBlock Plus”.

In computer ads can be blocked easily but in smartphones it’s little bit harder. Now the popular ad blocker for web browsers can be installed in Android phones, too. Previously, users could download it directly from Google Play Store. However, Google removed it but you still can download it from other sites.

But after downloading, you have to configure the AdBlock Plus and now it’s much easier.It can be configure on unrooted phone also. You don’t have to root your phone.

So here are the Pre-installation steps to install app in phone. Steps are :-

1. On your Android phone go to Settings.

2. Go to either Applications or Security, depending on the type of phone you have.

3. Find the “Device Administration” tab or similar setting and check the “Unknown sources.”

4. Now you are ready to further steps to configure settings of AdBlock.



Install AdBlock Plus without Google Play Store


1. Using your smartphone or tablet, in your browser, go to the official AdBlock Plus website for android.

2. Click the “Download” button or scan the QR code.

3. You will see the progress of the download and wait for a few minutes. Click the file if it doesn’t run the APK file automatically. Click Install.

4. Click OK once the app is installed.

5. After installing, open the app. Now it will look like this.


6. If AdBlock Plus cannot change the proxy settings, you need to configure it manually. Click the “Configure” button. 

7. By clicking, a popup window will appear on screen of Proxy Configuration.


Now follow the instructions in the dialog box and set Proxy to localhost and Port to 2020.

8. Now read the instructions in the dialog box and Open Wireless settings or you can ignore it.

9. Now open the wireless setting and Long press the active Wi-Fi network (see the example below), and click “Modify network”.


10. Choose and check “Show advanced options”. 



11. Under “Proxy”, choose Manual and type hostname as “localhost” and Port as “2020”.



12. After entering hostname and port then save the settings. Again go to AdBlock app to see the configuration update.



Note: if AdBlock Plus still requires you to configure your network settings again, wait a few minutes and allow the changes to take effect. You may reboot your phone until the warning sign disappeared.

You can also check “Advance settings” for other modifications of the app like Start at boot or refresh over Wi-Fi networks.

How do you check if AdBlock Plus works?

Download or open an app that has ads or visit a website that has random ads.
